Training and Membership

Parents are not under pressure to join Kombatkids, we understand as parents that we need to allow 2 to 3 weeks when choosing a new activity for your child, this is adequate time to choose whether kombatkids is the right club for you. If the Club Instructor feels that a child is not going to benefit from Karate training you will be advised to return when they are older, more mature and can respond to the instructions and discipline expected in the classes.
There are no contracts to sign, or direct debits, there is no pressure to join Kombatkids.

Training with Kombatkids is not an expensive activity, no equipment needed other than a sparring kit (compulsory from yellow belt approx.£45). You will have class fees, grading fees and a yearly licence fee...there are no other hidden costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your child is absent from their class they are very welcome to make up that missed class at another of their own Instructor classes at no extra charge. You must inform your Club Instructor of your child's attendance to an alternative class.

Students are NOT allowed to class switch and make up any missed classes with a different Instructor.

Why do we not allow class switching?

a) Instructors hold their own class registers.

b) Instructors have access only to their own students emergency and medical information.

c) Instructors want consistency and balance in their own classes and not have inconsistent attendances of students that are unknown to them.

Switching would be not a problem in a club with one or two classes. However, Kombatkids holds a 1600+ student database, if switching was permitted, we would have students switching all the time to alternative classes. This would impact the consistency and balance of ALL Instructors classes. In addition, creating extra admin and hassle for Instructors. There are NO exceptions.

Kombatkids is a Members Only Club

All new students sign up to a one off payment of £50 (discounted for siblings). By signing up, a student is signing to become a member and with this membership a complimentary karate suit is offered.

Note: Membership is still payable regardless if a student already has a karate suit.

NB There is no refund on Membership or a Licence if a student leaves the club.

We have many students who may require their medication (inhaler, epipen etc). These details are given at initial registration and your club instructor will note and discuss any medication information.

In order to unsure the safe of handling of a students (under 16yrs) medication, they must be handed to the club instructor in a small bag (preferably a clear) with the student’s name and dosage information included. All medication to be placed easily accessible in the 'Red Medication Tray' on the instructors table.

It is important all parents or person with parental responsibility must keep their club instructor updated with any changes to their child's medication. All medication administered will be under strict supervision of your club instructor. Your instructor will not administer any prescribed medication without prior written parental permissions.

Kombatkids hold the largest Safeguarding Code 'Multi Award' in Martial Arts in England. Each venue has been individually awarded the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts Award.

Children attend Kombatkids for a number of reasons, most enquiries are based on reputation or have came from recommendation but other calls of enquiry maybe their child is being bullied or they want their child to be able to defend themself against a thug on the street or they want their child to gain more confidence or they want them to have a more disciplined attitude.

Kombatkids recognises a student as an individual and works with each child to look at all areas of their karate development.

Kombatkids promotes a student to have a healthy and positive mindset...set goals, achieve and not let obstacles get in the way...subsequently contributing in embracing other positive aspects in their life to help create a growth mindset.

Kombatkids ensures parents are receiving the best form of keeping up to date with communications. We have a parentmail system, website, facebook, two way telephone/email communication with parent/instructor and contact can be made directly to Head Office should you wish to ask any further questions or discuss any concern.

All students are taught to support and respect each other...many go onto develop external long term friendships.

Students get to learn Japanese Karate terminology, get fit and learn a fantastic traditional martial art!

We encourage all parents or persons with parental responsiblity to look around at different clubs and ask the relevant questions before considering their child joins a club (You can be a great athlete, you can be a high dan grade....that does not mean you are a good coach!)

Kombatkids Instructors:

a) All have trained with Kombatkids for a mininum of 7yrs before becoming an instructor. As a student progresses through grades, they will at some point be taught by other Kombatkids instructors (i.e.courses, instructor cover, competition). This enables the students to recieve excellent quality of tuition and same understanding of the style we teach.
b) All clubs are structured and ran exactly the same way.
c) No instructor is taken on and left to run their own club as they wish.
d) Any issues or problems, Kombatkids has procedures and policies in place that are strictly followed.
e) All instructors are corresponded with as a group and in regular 'daily' communications.

Statement from Steve & Selina Moore:
"As founders of Kombatkids in 1992, it is important for us to personally manage and govern Kombatkids. We love what we do and as parents of three grown up children, know exactly what parents should expect in terms of value for money, quality of tuition and knowing their child is happy and safe in their new chosen activity. All Kombatkids instructors have the additional security and benefit knowing they have immediate support, guidance and appropriate advice given to run their classes professionally. Parents can be assured, when selecting Kombatkids for their child, they have made....the right choice!"

It is not necessary for a student to have a mobile phone in class. All instructors hold a fully charged phone with a register and access to all student emergency details (Note: It is the responsibility of the parent or person with parental responsiblity to ensure all contact details are kept fully up to date)

However, we have no objection to a student bringing a mobile phone to class but it must remain either on silent or switched off.

Kombatkids takes NO responsibility of any lost personal items such as mobile phones, ipads etc.

There are NO CLASS REFUNDS due to student absence. Students can attend an alternative class of their club instructor to substitute a missed class at no additional cost. Your club instructor is still there even if you can not attend and still has the same hall costs and expenses to cover!

In the event of an Instructor's absence, Kombatkids will always firstly try to organise instructor cover for that class. However, if this not possible, your club instructor will either offer the student to attend an alternative class or will credit the following terms class fees.

Any class refund will be at the descretion of the club instructor and only when a student is unable to attend a class due to exceptional circumstance through no fault to parent/student. Note: school / social events are not classed as an exceptional circumstance.

If there was any concern and a child was not settling they will contact the parent.

ONE parent or person with parental responsibility of NEW BEGINNERS ONLY can stay and watch the class for the FIRST THREE CLASSES ONLY in order to observe and reassure their child.

NOTE: We do have a number of schools with a no parent ruling within their school policy. Kombatkids adheres and respects any rules set within that school's policy. This information will be noted on each school/venue details on the website.

Limiting parental intake offers additional safeguarding to all students. Under Kombatkids Child Protection Policy, we have students who can not be photographed or filmed, we have to ensure protection of these students and instructors can not be teaching students and observing parents or persons with parental responsibility. We realise some parents want to get a photo of their child on their first lesson....speak to your Club Instructor at the end of the lesson who can help achieving this photo.

We have students who get nervous or students with special educational needs who are not comfortable with someone unfamiliar watching...parents can be a distraction without having to do anything!

We believe, bringing your child to Kombatkids, we are encouraging your child to develop into a confident and independent individual.

Kombatkids wants parents or persons with parental responsibility to share and celebrate their child's grading achievement and will be allowed in the class for their grading presentation. Your Club Instructor may have to protect students who can not be photographed/videoed and will advise how photographs can be taken for this presentation.
