Belts

Students who are entering competions need a Red and Blue belt to compete. Each competitor wears a different colour belt, either Red or Blue. Students who are competing on a regular basis usually have personalised embroidered belts which are also offered in both colours. Students who have passed their Black Belts also have the opportunity to wear a personalised Black belt with their name on one side and Japanese Kanji on the other.

 

Licences
When Joining Central Karate Schools a licence fee is payable of £40. This afilliates the student to Central Karate Schools and insures the student against serious injury. The licence booklet is an official grading record, which is used to record grading results and courses that are attended.
Important Note: When paying for the licences online you can only pay for 1 student at a time, because each students details have to be entered individually in the checkout section.  (i.e. Siblings have to be paid for separately)
Gradings

Gradings are held four times per year, March, June, October and December. In house gradings for 11th Kyu (Red & White) to 6th Kyu (Green) are held at the students individual clubs and are conducted by the club instructor at a cost of £28. Course gradings for 5th Kyu (Blue) to 1st Kyu (Black & White) are held at Park Hall School, Walsall (Always check to make sure the grading is not being held at Wolverhampton University, Walsall Campus) and consist of three hours tuition, the examiner is Steven Moore 4th Dan (Chief Instructor), assisted by Paul Cicarella 3rd Dan, Jamie Donaghy 3rd Dan & Graeme Hamilton 2nd Dan. The cost for this is £40.

On passing the grading students receive a Belt, Certificate, and their licence is signed and stamped with the appropriate grade.
Please note Belts are not handed out at the grading, they are given out by their club instructor at the students individual club. Licences and certificates are returned up to four weeks later.

Suits

Central provide a variety of quality, affordable suits for students attending classes, tournaments and courses. For serious competitors, two suits are needed one for Kata and another for Kumite, for general club training a standard club suit is suitable.

0 - 130cm - 5 to 6yrs old
1 - 140cm - 7 to 8yrs old
2 - 150 cm - 9 to 10yrs old
3 - 160cm - 12 to 14yrs old
4 - 170cm - 15 yrs upwards
5 - 180cm - 16yrs upwards
6 - 190cm - 16yrs upward

If you are not sure of the size ask your own club instructor, they will be able to give advice on the size of suit needed.

Badges & Karate DVD's

Centrals students wear an association badge on their Gi, students who attend 4 squad training sessions are awarded a special squad badge, to be worn proudly at competitions.

Pads and Boots
For the safety of the students, sparring kits are required for students 8th Kyu and above, consisting of Boots, Mitts and Gum Shield. Students entering tournaments need Shin pads, and a Red and Blue sparring kit. Students who are entering International tournaments and EKF Championships need the Adidas WKF Approved Foot and Shin pads to be able to compete.
